Discovery Kit
Fully assembled unit consisting of Discovery Board with 1 MByte TINY-Tiger™ multitasking computer, high contrast black/white graphic LCD, 128 x 240 pixels and a 100-240 VAC power supply. The Discovery Kit can be used immediately for program development and as a lab or prototype unit when graphics and/or sound are required in a control application.
The Discovery Board is a design example for the integration of different types of I/O channels on a compact board using the TINY-Tiger™. Depending on the application, a TINY-Tiger™ with 544 kByte to 2.5 MByte FLASH + SRAM is used. The Discovery Board has 5 mounting holes and is suitable for wall and case mounting. In laboratory use it can be directly equipped with rubber feet. The most striking feature is the clearly visible compact loudspeaker, which also indicates an area of application, voice and sound output. Matching this is the integrated microphone. Speech and sounds can be recorded as well as forwarded via RS-232 / 485, such as for digital intercoms.
Especially applications with sound / speech output or tasks with focus on good LCD graphics benefit from the 2 MByte FLASH in the TCN-4/16 Tiger. Depending on sampling rate, resolution and desired sound quality, approx. 100 ... 300 sec sound or speech can be recorded per MByte. Enough for many announcement systems or speaking message units. For projects with larger sound files the use of SmartMedia FLASH cards is recommended, which are currently available in sizes of 16 ... 128 MByte. The connection to the BASIC-Tiger™ is done via the SmartMedia adapter.
For graphic applications, the memory requirements are usually not quite so high, so internal FLASH is usually sufficient. With less than 4 KByte memory requirement for a full screen 128 x 240 pixels, approx. 250 pictures per MByte fit into the memory. In addition, there is the fast vector-graphic of the BASIC-Tiger™ system. It allows the generation of images from vector data in real-time operation, so that only little memory is used.
The board also has the common I/O features, clock and SRAM with battery backup as well as light and temperature sensors. Thus, the board can be used directly as a small control and measurement system, e.g. in home control and monitoring.
